Craving timer

Rate the urge, start the timer and follow the steps. When it ends, rate the urge again. Many cravings ease within 15 to 30 minutes, and seeing your own numbers makes that real.

How to use the timer well

  1. Be honest with the first rating. The number is for you, not for anyone else.
  2. Keep your hands busy. Walk, stretch, wash a few dishes or tidy a shelf.
  3. Do not decide during the wait. Choose after the timer ends.
  4. Rate again. If the number dropped, you have your own proof that urges pass.

What the numbers can tell you

If the urge falls a lot, it was probably a craving driven by habit, boredom or mood. If it stays high or rises, you may simply be hungry, and a plain meal is a perfectly good answer. Either result is useful, and over a few weeks your ratings show which pattern is yours.

If you want the full ritual

The FeedMeNot app wraps this idea in a pretend delivery: you fill a cart, check out for Rs 0 and watch a rider on the map while the craving timer runs. Read more in urge surfing and the craving delay technique.
