What to count as the home meal cost
Add up the ingredients you actually use, plus a small share for oil, spices and gas. A simple dal, rice and sabzi plate often costs well under Rs 100 per person. A fancier home meal can cost more. Use your own honest number.
What the comparison leaves out
- Your time. Cooking takes effort. Prepping on a weekend lowers it.
- Delivery is sometimes the right call. A long day, guests or illness are good reasons to order.
- Food you throw away. Count only what you eat.
Using the result
You do not need to swap every meal. Even two or three swaps a week change the yearly figure noticeably. Pair this tool with the spend calculator and the guide on budget meal prep for Indian kitchens.
