Craving cold coffee? Make it at home
Time: 5 minutes. Serves 1. Type: Veg. Rough home cost: Rs 15 to 30 a glass (an estimate that changes with city, season and brand).
Why you crave it
Cold coffee is a sweet, creamy, caffeinated treat that feels like a break. The thick froth is what people miss when they make it at home, and that comes from dissolving the coffee properly.
Before you order: take the 20 minute pause
A craving usually peaks and fades. Start the craving timer and rate the urge. If it is still strong after twenty minutes, this recipe is a better answer than a delivery order, and you will have a hot meal ready in about the same time.
Ingredients
- 2 tsp instant coffee
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp hot water
- 1 cup cold milk
- 4 to 5 ice cubes
- Optional: 1 scoop vanilla ice cream or 1 tsp chocolate syrup
Method
- Mix the coffee, sugar and hot water and whisk for a minute until it turns pale and frothy.
- Add the cold milk and ice to a blender or a jar with a tight lid.
- Add the whisked coffee.
- Blend or shake hard for 30 seconds until frothy.
- Pour into a tall glass and drizzle with chocolate syrup if you like.
What this costs compared with delivery
The home cost above is a rough range for the ingredients, based on typical retail prices. Delivery apps add fees, taxes and often a tip on top of the dish price.
