Craving brownies and chocolate cake? Make it at home

By the FeedMeNot team. Updated 3 November 2026.

3 minute microwave mug brownie
Time: 5 minutes. Serves 1. Type: Veg. Rough home cost: Rs 15 to 30 (an estimate that changes with city, season and brand).

Why you crave it

A brownie craving is a craving for warm, dense chocolate. A mug brownie gives you a single portion hot from the microwave, which is also a built-in portion control.

Before you order: take the 20 minute pause

A craving usually peaks and fades. Start the craving timer and rate the urge. If it is still strong after twenty minutes, this recipe is a better answer than a delivery order, and you will have a hot meal ready in about the same time.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp maida
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp oil or melted butter
  • 1 tbsp chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

Method

  1. In a large microwave-safe mug mix the dry ingredients with a fork.
  2. Add the milk and oil and stir until no dry flour remains.
  3. Push the chocolate chips into the middle.
  4. Microwave on high for 60 to 75 seconds. It should look set on top but still slightly moist underneath.
  5. Rest for one minute and eat from the mug.
Tip. Microwaves differ. Start at 60 seconds. Overcooked mug brownies turn rubbery.

What this costs compared with delivery

The home cost above is a rough range for the ingredients, based on typical retail prices. Delivery apps add fees, taxes and often a tip on top of the dish price.
